CAPS United appear to have suffered major losses at the gates, running into thousands of dollars, during the high-profile Harare Derby at the National Sports Stadium on Sunday.
The Green Machine were the home side and lost the game 0-2.
It has emerged they also lost heavily at the gates as thousands of funds, which were supposed to have filtered into their account, ended up in the pockets of syndicates.
Many of these syndicates, helped by some notorious bouncers, now specialise in taking control of major sporting and musical events.
Reports suggest that only 18 500 paid to watch the big match even though conservative estimates put the figure at over 30 000.
“There was bloodbath at the gates and a number of people are smiling right now because they made a killing in terms of cash,” said a source.
“It’s a shame because our sport will not develop when the money, which is supposed to go into the coffers of the clubs, to help them deal with their costs and inspire their players with incentives, ends up in the hands of some scrupulous individuals.”
