Devure Bridge accident kills boy (9)

TRAGEDY struck on April 29 when Paul Musanduki (9) lost his life in a fatal accident near Devure Bridge, along the Mutare-Masvingo Road.

The incident occurred around 2:30pm when a Toyota Land Cruiser, driven Nyasha Mudekwa (39), from Morning Side, Marondera, struck the victim, who hailed from Pomuri village, under Chief Chamutsa, in Buhera.

Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said:
“The incident occurred when Nyasha Mudekwa was driving toward Birchenough Bridge with three passengers. As he approached the 135km peg, at Devure Bridge, the young boy suddenly appeared from the river bank, attempting to cross the bridge, and was hit by the vehicle.

“Mudekwa stopped his vehicle about 25 metres away, and upon seeing the boy’s condition, he rushed him to Birchenough Bridge Hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. The boy suffered a fractured leg and skull fracture, leading to excessive bleeding.”

Nyanyadzi traffic police officers attended the scene alongside VID officials.

They inspected the vehicle, which sustained damages to the front headlamp and left side fender.

Investigations are still in progress.
