Dhewa unfazed by Sixpence’s departure

“Dhewa” Moyo.
Dhewa said the departure of Sixpence – one of Utakataka’s leading drummers – did not come as a surprise to him since he was in the habit of hopping from one band to another.

“The guy (Sixpence) has always been like that and his departure will not in any way affect us (Utakataka Express). As you know, Musa left for Suluman Chimbetu but the band moved on without him, so Sixpence’s issue is a non-event,” Dhewa said.

Sixpence carved his career with Barura Express before jumping ship to join Gakamoto Stars.
Realising that the venture was not paying off, his nomadic nature saw him joining Utakataka Express.

And it now appears, Sixpence might be searching for another group to flirt with.
“He is just been all over the shop, trying his luck. But he is still coming for rehearsals with the band, and I have got no problems with that. Should he decide he wants to leave for good, we will let him. Life at Utakataka will continue,” he said.

TONGAI MOYO

To prove that his group was still going strong, the “Muchina Muhombe” hit-maker urged fans to come and witness his performance during the official opening of Okichodi Night Club in Lower Gweru tomorrow.
“We are one of the biggest groups in the country and we can’t be stalled by one person. People should come to our show in Gweru and see for themselves. I have been asked this question several times, but I think it would be ideal for them to see what is on the ground,” Dhewa said.

Dhewa even promised to deliver one of his best shows in recent years saying he has since found a replacement for his departed drummer only identified as Nico.
He also revealed that he would sample new songs off his forthcoming yet-to-be-titled album.

“People should come in their numbers at the official opening of Okichodi Night Club in Lower Gweru where we are going to dish out not just our usual stuff but also new songs from the forthcoming album.
“Though the album does not have a title yet, we are expecting to release it at the end of the year,” Dhewa said.

Dhewa also revealed that he was going to educate fans in the Midlands capital on social, marital and health through his music.
Roderick Chomudhara, who took over the reins of the late John Chibadura’s Tembo Brothers outfit when he passed away several years ago and Girls La Musica, will curtain raise for Dhewa. “This is going to be one of Dhewa’s biggest shows after a long absence in Gweru and people should come in their numbers to witness their idol in action considering that it is also the official opening of one of their popular joints in the city.

It is an out-of-town joint with facilities to cater for the whole family,” Luckmore Matsunge, the director of Okichodi Night Club, said.
The joint boasts state-of-the-art facilities and is proving to be one of the leading entertainment venues in Gweru since its establishment four months ago.
