BEING found in possession of 10 pieces of uncut diamonds landed two Mutare men in court last week.

Augustine Mwashita and Richmore Mucheta appeared before senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura facing charges of contravening Section 3(1) of the Mines and Mineral Act which outlaws dealing in or possessing diamonds without a licence.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Mr Donald Mudadirwa prosecuted.

“The accused persons were nabbed by police detectives in possession of 10 pieces of uncut diamonds stashed in their satchels. The detectives had received a tip-off that they were selling diamonds,” said Mr Mudadirwa.

They failed to produce a valid permit allowing them to deal in minerals leading to their arrest.

They were remanded out of custody to July 23 on $250 bail each.
