People living with disabilities and those that were left vulnerable by the Covid-19 induced lockdowns across the country got some relief following the initiation of projects and donation of groceries by well-wishers.
A non for profit organisation, JKM Foundation, working with the Government, has been assisting the needy mostly in rural areas including Shurugwi, Murewa and Zvimba.
JKM programmes manager Mr Gift Petro said they were initiating income generation projects across the country, including goat and chicken rearing, for the vulnerable so that people stop relying on food aid, but be self-sustainable.
“So we are engaging people living with disabilities and those affected by Covid-19 so that they have a starting point in these hard times,” he said. “We are also donating sanitisers, buckets for hand washing and face masks in clinics.”
Mr Petro said among other initiatives, they were donating sanitary wear at clinics and schools in rural areas.
“Where we distributed sanitary wear some girls actually lacked knowledge on how to use them hence we also did workshops teaching them,” he said.
People living with disability and the old in Murewa North Constituency also received donations when JKM partnered Zanu PF legislator and National Housing and Social Amenities Minister Cde Daniel Garwe to donate groceries including sugar, soap, flour, salt, matches and buckets.
This coming weekend, they will be donating groceries in Zvimba district.
