FC Platinum, under Rahman Gumbo, offloaded 11 players who did duty for them in the just-ended season, among them 2010 Soccer Star of the Year finalists, Bhekimpilo Ncube and Mernard Mupera.
Interestingly though Mupera was the club’s Players’ Player of the Year and received a cool $4 000 for the feat.
Gumbo is on a two-week long holiday in Canada.
Some of the players who spoke to Chronicle Sport said they had already started putting feelers with at least two from the offloaded players said to be eyeing Bulawayo giants Highlanders while three could join newly promoted Quelaton.
“I am looking for a new base instead of waiting for the club to tell us what to do because by then it could be a bit late,” said one of the offloaded players on condition of anonymity.
He did not reveal which club or clubs he was talking to but said whichever club he would join he would still be on the FC Platinum payroll as his contract was still running.
Another player who also did not want to be named said he was busy looking for a club to join.
When contacted for comment FC Platinum secretary Philemon Muwengwa said his club would only be in a position to comment when the players return from the off-season break, sometime next week.
He also said the issue of contracts would also be discussed at that time, a suggestion that the club might consider terminating some of the players’ contracts.
“All that will be dealt with when the guys come back from the off-season break. Right now I cannot give you an exact answer,” said Muwengwa.
FC Platinum registered 14 new players for their maiden Champions League campaign, bringing a total of 29 players and are likely to further offload more for the domestic league as the PSL quota is set at 25 seniors and five juniors.
