Softball association to cover all schools

It is mostly played in schools with the only league in the city made up of students.
Softball association development officer, Bulawayo representative Eldon Mudzingwa said they were hoping to cover all schools in the city next year.
“We had a number of primary schools playing softball this year but we are hoping it will be played at most schools,” he said.
Mudzingwa said part of their developmental plans were to tap into secondary schools eventually.
“We are looking forward to initiating the sport in other schools that were not active. It would be easy for us to tap into secondary schools through primary schools as we will be able to follow up on them,” he said.
Mudzingwa said one of the problems that they faced was lack of resources
“Some secondary schools were given equipment but are not using it. We are hoping to find out about that equipment and at the same time source more for other schools that did not get any,” he said.
Mudzingwa said they also lack financial resources to run more developmental programmes.
Last year five secondary schools participated in the sport and at the moment they have a number of them in their developmental programmes.
The high schools are Mandwandwe, Emakhandeni, Luveve, Nkulumane, Mncumbatha, Montrose, Ihlathi and Sizane.
At the moment there are six provinces that are active in the sport and these are Bulawayo, Harare, Mashonaland West, Mashonaland East, Manicaland and Midlands.
