Discounted tariffs for Chi-Town senior residents

SENIOR citizens in Chitungwiza can now enjoy discounted services and property tax with effect from this month.

In a statement, the Chitungwiza municipality said this is a year with a difference.

“We are a listening council, and indeed 2023 is a year with a difference. Following your concerns during stakeholders’ meetings, you requested for a discounted tariff.

“We heeded the call and we are pleased to inform you that you shall be paying 70 percent tariffs for service and property tax on residential areas only.”

The council said there are conditions that apply for one to be considered.

“To be considered, one must be 65 years of age. The Housing Department will conduct an assessment to come up with deserving members, and selected members should have cleared all arrears.

“A life certificate to be completed on a yearly basis while non-renewal of the life certificate will nullify the benefit,” read the statement.

Chitungwiza municipality has often been criticised for failing to provide essential services to residents.

However, it dismissed those claims, saying the problem was being caused by financial constraints.
