DONKEY DRAMA TURNS VIOLENT!. . . Man clobbered with knobkerrie in maize dispute

A 26-YEAR-OLD man from Insuza landed in court after a heated argument over donkeys turned into a brutal attack.
Handsome Mahlangu appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Barbara Phiri, facing assault charges after assaulting his neighbour, Mthokozisi Ncube.

The drama started when Ncube discovered that Mahlangu’s donkeys had invaded his maize field and caused serious damage.

According to court papers, the donkeys strayed into the crops on the night of March 26 at around 8PM.

Trying to handle the situation peacefully, Ncube penned the animals at his homestead, waiting for their owner to come and collect them. The following morning, he released the donkeys.

But things took a shocking turn later that day.

At around 6PM, Ncube approached Mahlangu and told him about the damage caused by his donkeys. He even asked him to take pictures of the destroyed maize so he could show his parents.

That’s when tempers flared.

Mahlangu became furious and claimed his donkeys had the right to graze in the field because Ncube had previously used them for ploughing without his permission.

Before Ncube knew it, Mahlangu reportedly grabbed a knobkerrie and struck him twice — once on the forehead and once on the leg.

The attack left Ncube seriously injured, with a swollen head and a broken leg.

He rushed to St Luke’s Hospital for treatment, and a medical report confirming his injuries was presented in court.

The matter was reported to the police, leading to Mahlangu’s arrest.

He pleaded guilty in court and has been remanded out of custody to April 17 for plea recording and sentencing.
