CAPE COAST. — Black Stars assistant coach, Otto Addo, who is also the trainer at Bundesliga giants, Borussia Dortmund, officially started working with the Ghana national team on Tuesday.
Addo has been added to the national team’s new technical set-up, which is led by Serbian gaffer, Milovan Rajevac.
Their first match is against Zimbabwe here in a 2022 World Cup qualifier on Saturday.
Addo, the former Ghana international, was spotted in the Black Stars’ first training session, at the Cape Coast Stadium, on Tuesday.
Twenty five players were taken through several routines to try and get them ready for Saturday. Addo was appointed first assistant coach last month, accepting to work with Rajevac and second assistant coach Maxwell Konadu.
However, Addo has not quit a similar role he holds at Dortmund and is combining both jobs. “What I know is that Otto will be working as a service provider, at least for now, unfortunately, because having sought permission from his club, Borussia Dortmund, they felt they cannot release him,” GFA spokesperson, Henry Asante Twum, revealed.
“It will take time for him to come and work for us fully.
‘’So, for now, Otto will be doing pay-as-you-go. He comes to work during the international breaks and then goes back.”
He will be in the dugout on Saturday when the Black Stars host Zimbabwe in a must-win encounter at the Cape Coast Stadium.
Three days later, the two teams will meet again in Harare.
Meanwhile, Swindon Town FC goalkeeper, Jojo Wallocott, had his first training session with the Black Stars on Tuesday.
Wollacott was put through his paces by Rajevac as he fine-tuned his squad ahead of Saturday’s clash. The 25-year-old was among four goalkeepers called up for the crucial encounters. The others are Lawrence Ati-Zigi, Richard Atta, and Ibrahim Danlad.
Columbus Crew captain, Jonathan Mensah, was expected to join the team yesterday as the GFA continue to assess Andrew Yiadom’s situation at Reading FC. — www.ghanaweb.com.
