Driver convicted for reversing mishap, fined $200

A 44 year old Karoi man has been convicted for negligent driving after hitting and injuring a pedestrian when his car reversed into the victim.

In a statement from the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe ,Tafidza Manyembere (44) was arraigned before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court on charges of negligent driving.

“It is the State’s case that on the 7th of March 2024 around 13:30 hours the accused person failed to control his motor vehicle, a Toyota Fun Cargo as he was reversing along Chiedza Road turning into Harare-Chirundu road .

“The motor vehicle hit a pedestrian who was standing on the pavement. The pedestrian sustained a cut on the right eye and an injury on the right leg,”reads the statement.

The NPAZ said Manyembere was convicted and sentenced to a fine of US$200 or three months imprisonment.

“Further, the accused person’s license will be endorsed indicating that he has been convicted of a road traffic offence,” said the NPAZ.
