A RUSAPE man, Julius Katuruza (49), was fined US$700 or faced eight months in prison for culpable homicide after knocking down and killing 12-year-old Beyonce Chibhadhura in a speeding accident last year.
Katuruza, of Plot 33 Tikwiri Farm, pleaded guilty to the offence before Rusape magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe.
The court heard that Katuruza was driving at excessive speed along the Rusape-Tsanzaguru road when he hit Beyonce, who was crossing the road, causing fatal injuries.
A further eight months’ imprisonment was suspended for five years pending good behaviour.
The prosecution alleged Katuruza was negligent in failing to control his speed and keep a proper lookout.
