A newborn baby was discovered alive in a bushy area along Khami Road in Bulawayo, opposite a local brewery.

The infant was found wrapped in a blue denim trouser.

The incident occurred on 5 January 2025, at around 2pm.

A 40-year-old man searching for firewood in a pit used as a dumping site for wood shavings heard the sound of a crying infant.

He followed the sound and discovered the newborn baby wrapped in the blue denim trouser.

He immediately reported the matter to the police, and the infant was taken to Mpilo Hospital for medical examination.

Bulawayo acting police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele confirmed the incident and urged parents to provide support to their children to prevent such occurrences.

“We urge young people to seek counseling from elders and church leaders before making hasty decisions.

“We also implore parents to support their children to avoid such incidents,” said Insp Msebele.
