The city’s celebrated artistic gathering Intwasa Arts Festival koBulawayo are set to bounce back much stronger this year as the organisers have revealed that the festival will take place from 24 to 27 September – returning to its traditional dates.
This year’s edition will feature content and presentations from film, dance, music, theatre, literature, spoken word as well as concerts.
Despite facing financial challenges last year, the festival managed to pull up and stage a number of events from 27 up to 30 November, with the Women Wine and Words being the major highlight of the festivities.
The movement which usually celebrates female creatives who are doing well in uplifting the country’s flag internationally, last year saw globetrotting Imbube ensemble Nobuntu, Zarae, Chioniso Tsikirayi, Sonkomose, Vuyo Brown and Um’Africakazi taking to the stage.
Versatile creative Lady Tshawe was the host of the much-anticipated gig.
Apart from Women Wine and Words, last year Intwasa also staged community outreach programmes as they staged two events in Cowdray Park and Nkulumane as a way of building up their audience.
They also held the Bulawayo Lensfest at the Art Gallery which saw numerous speakers including Chronicle’s multi-award-winning Arts journalist Bongani Ndlovu, blogger Kudakwashe Takundwa, Cleo CNC, among others, leading the discussion on different topics that have to do with the photography business.
A Women in Arts Indaba was also held at the Gallery, attracting quite a number of female artistes and stakeholders.
