Tafara Chigariro (26) of Zengeza 2 and Richard Njanji (37) of St Mary’s have since appeared before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga.
They were not asked to plead to charges of contravening section 60 (a) (3) (6) of the Electricity Amendment Act Chapter 13:19.
The Act criminalises vandalism of Zesa equipment for generating or transmitting or supplying of electricity.
The two were remanded in custody to July 16 for trial.
Minerals Unit in Harare is being represented by the investigating officer Detective Sandra Mutsago.
Prosecutor Mr Henry Muringani told the court that on June 28 this year, the two hatched a plan to storm Chitungwiza Sewerage Works’ Industrial Area where they cut and stole 11/33KVA copper cables weighing 33kg and destroyed a 100KVA transformer and siphoned 224 litres of oil.
The two, however, ran out of luck when they were intercepted by members of the public from the scene of crime while carrying the loot.
They were apprehended and taken to Chitungwiza police station.
