Dynamos clash could make or break Benjani at Highlanders

THERE is no better opportunity for Benjani Mwaruwari to silence critics and win over the Bosso faithful than by beating Dynamos.

Mwaruwari will face his first real examination in the Bosso dugout when his side takes on Dynamos in a Jairos Jiri Charity Cup clash at Barbourfields Stadium on February 15.

There is nothing considered friendly when these two teams meet.
A loss for Bosso would invite criticism and raise questions about the new coach, while a victory could silence doubters, boost confidence and offer the fans a renewed sense of hope.

This certainly will be more than just a pre-season game.
The fixture has been confirmed as Highlanders’ opening assignment of the season, with all proceeds going to support the less privileged at the Jairos Jiri Association. While the match forms part of pre-season preparations, its significance stretches far beyond fitness levels and tactical experiments.

For Benjani, this encounter could shape his immediate future and acceptance at Highlanders. Matches against Dynamos are rarely treated as warm-ups, they are statements. His appointment has already stirred deep emotion among the Bosso faithful and also scepticism.

A positive result in this fixture could quickly win belief, buy patience and give him the space to implement his ideas.
Conversely, a poor showing, even in a pre-season setting could sharpen scrutiny and fuel doubt before the start of the league campaign.

Gate charges for the match have been set at US$5 for the rest of the ground, US$15 for VIP and US$20 for VVIP.
Dynamos are having their pre-season camp in Hwange before heading to Bulawayo for the showdown with Bosso.

The Charity Cup fixture is one of several preparatory matches planned by Dynamos ahead of the 2026 season.
When the teams take to the field at Barbourfields, Benjani will be chasing more than just a result. He will be seeking acceptance.

At Highlanders, approval is often earned not over the course of a season but in defining moments and sometimes, one Dynamos match is enough.
