A LAST minute $50 Ecocash transaction while in court saved a Wattle Company employee from being imprisoned on Monday. Hugo Manungo (25) of Manungo Village under Chief Nhema and employed as a general hand at Wattle Company, Selbourne was dragged to court after accruing maintenance arrears of $200. Manungo was on March 10 ordered to pay $50 maintenance for his minor child he sired with a woman from Mutungamira Village, Chief Mutasa.
Manungo did not comply with the court ruling and as of July 31, he had accrued $200 in arrears of the maintenance.
Appearing before Nyanga provincial magistrate, Mr Ignatio Mhene on Monday, Manungo told the court that he had $50 in his Ecocash account which he was ready to transfer to the woman’s account.
The court approved that the transaction be made in court, a move which saved him a jail sentence for defaulting maintenance paying.
Manungo was ordered to settle the $150 arrears on or before November 30 or face two months imprisonment.
