LAST week we reported a case of a 69-year-old man who raped his neighbour’s teenage daughter and infected her with an STI.
Kingston Berejena was arrested on Tuesday.
The incident happened in December last year.
Police said Berejena lured the 14-year-old girl into his room by offering her sadza and beans.
Police said that after the teenager ate the food, Berejena closed the door and raped her once without protection.
He went on to threaten the girl with unspecified action.
The sexual attack came to light when the victim’s sister found out that she had an STI.
The teenage girl disclosed that she was raped by Berejena, leading to his arrest.
Harare provincial deputy police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Faith Mapisa told H-Metro that the accused person and the complainant were not related but they stay at the same house.
She said Berejena invited the complainant and her younger sister, aged seven, into his room.
Berejena then gave the complainant and her younger sister sadza and beans, which they ate.
After the meal, Berejena ordered Shantel, the younger sister, to leave his room.
He then closed the door, locked it and pushed the teenage girl onto the couch, closed the complainant’s mouth and raped her once.
She was escorted to Edith Hospital for medical examinations.
This is yet another depressing case because on one side you have a 69-year-old man and on the other hand you have a teenage girl.
The man’s best years are clearly behind him while the teenage girl is just starting in her life’s journey and her best years are ahead of her.
It’s a shame that such an old man can decide to abuse such a teenage girl and, in the process, destroy her future.
It’s a shame because this is a man who should be helping this girl with life lessons, the risks which lie ahead and how she should navigate through all the challenges she will face.
Instead, he decided to turn into this monster and rape this young girl.
It’s such a heartbreaking story.
The girl and her sister trusted this man because they knew him since they live at the same house.
When he invited them into his room they did not see any reason why they should turn him down.
They trusted the food he gave them because they saw him as an uncle and they had no reason to suspect he meant any harm.
He abused their trust in the worst manner possible and he should pay for his sins.
This is just unacceptable.
We have seen many people like this monster and we believe that they only have one place where they belong – in jail.
We feel for this young girl.
We publish such stories because we want the country to see the evil side of some of our fellow citizens.
Berejena is a monster.
He is a horrible human being and it appears this is not the first time he has done such a horrible thing.
