Editorial Comment: Don’t wash dirty linen in public

MARITAL bliss is every couple’s dream when they join the esteemed marriage institution.

As expected, marriage comes with new discoveries.

Fake promises and lies are also found in the process while the reality will always be laid bare.

Hurdles are part of this journey.

And, failure to deal with them early, means couples will have to deal with them for the rest of their unions.

To be precise, marriage is also a demanding institution where the faint-hearted and pretenders can easily choke.

No one can easily get it right in this institution, whether they are rich or faithful, to each other.

Once you are elevated into this institution, you should know that a new journey, pregnant with thorns, has begun.

However, it becomes a cause for concern when marriages that we thought were made in heaven are teetering on the brink of collapse.

Most African couples have a tendency of washing dirty linen in public, when they are experiencing challenges.

This trend is usually fuelled by infidelity, irresponsibility and insecurity.

South Africa-based urban grooves star, Enoch “Nox” Guni, instantly comes to mind as the entertainer is trending over nasty allegations.

In yesterday’s issue of H-Metro, his wife, Tallyn Ndudzo, accused him of infecting her with a Sexually Transmitted Infection (STI), after a recent tour of the UK.

She also accused him of being an irresponsible and reckless husband.

Whether she is hurting, or about to call it quits, it’s a question for another day.

From all the accusations laid against him, fans can easily see that theirs is now a house on fire.

Nox is not the only celebrity to have been trolled by their lovers.

The Alick Macheso and Tafadzwa Mapako’s nasty divorce, had its fair share of drama.

The same goes for Seh Calaz’s shattering split with his baby mama, Moira Knight.

This list of couples, who washed dirty linen in public when the going got tough, is endless.

As a way forward, elders should always encourage couples to find better ways to address their marital woes.

Dialogue should always be prioritised when the institution is shaking.

When a deadlock is reached, the last option is very simple – walking out.

Hanging on will only bring about more misery if couples don’t find each other and reconcile.

During tough times, couples should always seek counselling and avoid unnecessary drama on social media.

Nowadays, social media has proved to be toxic and dangerous when abused by feuding parties.

In most cases, wronged parties who run to social media, suffer more abuse at the hands of cyber bullies.

Dialogue should always be prioritised to ensure that problems are addressed in a civilised manner.

All in all, marriage is not for the weak but couples should be firm and resolute all the time.
