The result, let alone the performance were reminiscent of the good old days when the Warriors would make light work of minnows on the international stage.
This is just what the nation expects from the flagship football team.
And because of that result, there is now reasonable hope that Callisto Pasuwa will move forward to craft a plan to see the Warriors clear the last hurdle and progress to the continent’s biggest soccer competition.
As we bask in the glory of Easter Monday’s emphatic triumph, we need not to forget the need to prepare well for the remaining matches.
Guinea are now three points behind us from the same number of matches and with two rounds of group stage qualifying matches to go then we need to adequately prepare.
Yes, we are at an advantage, but we are not yet there!
Needless to say, Guinea are a serious football playing nation that also want to grace the continents’ biggest soccer showcase and if we are not serious in our approach in the remaining two matches we will be bundled out.
Refreshingly, our preparations in the run-up to Easter Monday’s encounter have not been as shoddy as we have made accustomed to in the past.
Little as it might seem, Pasuwa and his men in the technical department have had time for training with the entire squad, something that was unheard of even in recent years when our game was being run like a casino by the Cuthbert Dube-led administration.
Now that the victory against Swaziland is behind us, we just have to reunite and reorganise ourselves once again.
Our boys will soon plunge into their latest bid to claim continental supremacy by qualifying for the Africa Cup of Nations tournament to be held in Gabon next year.
Zifa needs no reminder to ensure that the team gets adequate preparations before the matches against Malawi and Guinea.
All that matters to us now, at least as June approaches, is the national pride at stake knowing full well that there is more to what unites us as Zimbabweans than what divides us.

Indeed, that is why we will all find the excitement irresistible if the team wins the match including those who might have had different opinions on which player should have made it in the team.
