Editorial Comment: Wife bashing is cowardice

WHEN couples marry, marital bliss should be the ultimate dream.

New and old marriages should inspire others to join the institution.

The world over, it is widely believed marriage comes with responsibility, happiness and relief.

Torment, and all forms of abuse, should never be allowed to infiltrate these special unions.

However, the mature, disciplined and hard workers are the best candidates who qualify for marriage.

Gender-based violence, greediness and cheating should be avoided to save marriages.

Once these are allowed to stray into this institution, unrest, bickering and violence become a common new chorus.

Precisely, all that couples need is a prolonged life of happiness, prosperity and true love in marriage.

However, the once sacred institution has been turned into a war zone.

This follows a spike in cases of wife beaters.

On a daily basis, we are carrying, at least, two or three cases of domestic violence. The courts have been turned into places of counselling where such hearings are heard.

In most cases, these wife bashers never show remorse each time they are brought to book.

This violence emanates from insecurity, drug and substance abuse and infidelity.

However, physical abuse is never a solution when wronged by our partners.

The unfashionable trend of wife bashers appears to be the in-thing, considering a surge in such cases.

It’s sad that there are numerous cases of wife bashing being concealed.

Top celebrities, influencers and nonentities have all been caught in this web.

This week alone, a top rapper, fellow journalist and businessman were all dragged to court charged with assault.

In another case, a man gave his wife a thrashing after being denied his conjugal rights by an ailing partner.

But it is the celebrities who, despite preaching against GBV, keep being caught offside.

As influential people, they should be ashamed of themselves that they find themselves being accused of wife bashing.

No matter how someone gets angered, giving a hiding to the person, who is meant to be your life partner, should never be an option.

Wife bashing is not a sign of supremacy but rather cowardice of the highest level.

Of course, there are some men who are suffering at the hands of their partners. They also should expose the perpetrators.

But, it is common cause that the men are the biggest problem here and it’s the women who have found themselves at the wrong end of the explosion of fury.

Studies have shown there are several women dying in silence, due to ignorance.

Such cases of domestic violence should never be allowed to continue happening.

In cases where violence has become a staple, quitting marriage is the solution.

Dying for a marriage is not worth it.

Wife bashers should be exposed and prosecuted so that we can safeguard the beauty of marriage.

It’s a special union and we all should play a part to safeguard it.
