TWENTY students from underprivileged families in Mashonaland Central Province have received thousands of grants for their fees to help them in their academic pursuit.
The kind gesture is courtesy of Chinese gold mining company, Chang Sino-Africa.
Beneficiaries of the grant are enrolled at Ming Chang Primary School, which was built and donated to the Government by Ming Chang, in 2016.
The company promises to add the number and also provide support with nutrition, water and sanitation, stationery as well as construction of new classroom blocks and staff accommodation.
Ming Chang vice-president, Xing Shanshan, said her company was working towards the construction of another school in Kwekwe, worth more than US$1million.
“I am delighted with this scholarship on behalf of Ming Chang Sino-Africa.
“We feel a strong sense of glory and mission to make our endeavour a Zimbabwe educational cause.
“We also feel honoured to dedicate our love to sponsor some students to complete their studies in the hope that they will become the pillars of the country.
“Ming Chang Sino-Africa has been developing and flourishing in Zimbabwe for quite a number of years, without the support of the local communities and people, we would not have gained these remarkable achievements,” she said.
She added: “We always feel grateful for Zimbabwe and her people.
“As it is known, education is not only the future of the citizens, but also the future of the country.
“It gives me great pleasure to make contributions to the success of the students and the investment in education is already built in our blueprint of company development, in the past years, we have put more importance in sponsoring education. In Kwekwe, another school plan is to be finalised and construction will start this year.
“After the completion of the school, we will donate to the government to ease the schooling of the local students adjacent to our plant.”
She said since 2016, they have donated Shamva Ming Chang Primary School, as well as the desks, computers and borehole.
“We have witnessed the growth of the students, smiling faces and improvement in their studies. Zimbabwe is a great nation, her people are diligent and friendly, the spirit of the students encourages everyone around, especially us.
“Let us work together with all dear students and cherish every opportunity to study and to repay the society with excellent achievements, bring glory to Zimbabwe, Shamva, and for their alma mater,” said Shanshan.
