Outgoing Egyptian ambassador to Zimbabwe Mahmoud Farouk Amer yesterday bade farewell to Speaker of the National Assembly Advocate Jacob Mudenda and pledged to market Zimbabwe as a tourist destination as part of the efforts to convert good political relations to equally good economic relations.

Ambassador Amer commended the good political relations between the two countries and said it was time the ties were extended to the economic field.

“I came here this morning to bid farewell to the Speaker as I am coming to an end of my tour of duty here,” he said. I told the Speaker that Zimbabwe will always be in my heart and I will cherish the time I spent here. It’s a very beautiful country and will always be in my heart.

“I told the Speaker that he can count on to propagate for Zimbabwe’s cause in order to help foster Egyptian and Zimbabwe relations and help implement His Excellency, President Mnangagwa’s Vision 2030 for Zimbabwe to achieve. More specifically, in the tourism sector where I can sell this beautiful country to Egypt and beyond.”

A delegation from Egypt’s Ministry of Housing was recently in the country to share experiences with Zimbabwe in its plans to construct the smart city in Mt Hampden. Egypt is also constructing a new administrative capital.

“We have excellent political relations between our countries and we hope that we can bring the economic side of the relations at par with the political relations,” he said.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Amer thanked Advocate Mudenda for passing his condolences to Egypt following the deaths of 41 people in a fire at a church.
