ENQAMENI Seventh-day Adventist Church’s Dorcas Community Services Department in Gwabalanda suburb today extended a helping hand to less privileged members of the community through a generous donation of food hampers and clothes.

The food hampers included mealie meal, cooking oil, rice, flour, sugar and washing powder among others.

Smiles, laughter and words of gratitude filled the atmosphere as recipients—young and old alike—received the donations.

SDA Luveve District Pastor Kiviem Dube said it was important for the community to continue supporting one another, especially in times of need.

He said it was in God’s plan that Christians extend a helping hand to the needy.

Pastor Dube also urged members of the community to belong to various community organizations as it plays a critical role in helping fight society’s ills.

“These days it is difficult to have people extend a helping hand. Many people prefer to shut themselves in their homes and care about themselves. But as Africans we have a good culture that teaches us to take care of each other and those in needy,” he said.

Many expressed joy and appreciation, saying the support came at just the right time.

The initiative reflects the church’s ongoing commitment to live out the gospel through acts of kindness, compassion and service.

One of the recipients, Mrs Saziso Nsingo, said the donation came at the right time as she was failing to make ends meet.

“Today we have seen God’s hand through His people. Umangoye obeselala eziko. This gift will push me for some time because it is difficult for elders to make ends meet,” she said.

The recipients included both the elderly and the youths.

Enqameni Dorcas Community Services says the gesture embodies the church’s mission of touching lives, one act of service at a time.
