SOUTH Africa-based footballer, Onismor Bhasera, lost at least US$12,000 cash at his Greenside home in Mutare at the weekend.
Two men, who are believed to have been given keys to the house by Bhasera’s daughter, have been arrested in connection with the theft.
They were found sleeping in Bhasera’s bedroom and they were in the company of two women.
The two men appear to be relatives of Bhasera’s family.
Bhasera’s wife and child, who usually stay at the house, were visiting him in South Africa at the time the thieves struck.
The thieves stole ten thousand dollars, which had been stuffed into a tennis shoe, which was hidden in the wardrobe.
They also stole two thousand dollars, which was in a cash box, which was placed behind a television set. Bhasera is a former Warriors star.
Acting Manicaland police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka, referred questions to national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, who could not be reached for comment last night.
However, H-Metro has it on good authority that Bhasera’s child gave the house keys to Nyasha Chikadzakuwanani and Prosper Chiruka.
It is not known how she ended up giving the two the house keys.
The two allegedly entered the house when the child and her mother, Siphathisiwe Bhasera, left for South Africa to visit Bhasera.
Panashe Murahwa, who is Siphathisiwe’s uncle, was handed the responsibility of making regular checks at the house.
When he arrived at the house at the weekend, he found Chikadzakuwanani and Chiruka sleeping in Bhaseras’ bedroom.
They were in the company of two women.
“On May 14, 2026, Mrs Bhasera left Mutare going to South Africa where Onismor Bhasera is based,” the source said. “On May 16, 2026, Murahwa proceeded to the Bhasera’s house for his regular checks.
“He found Chikadzakuwanani and Chiruka, together with two women, sleeping in the bedroom.
“Murahwa advised Mrs Bhasera about the incident through the phone. Bhasera’s wife advised Murahwa to chase the suspects out of the house and to take possession of the keys.”
The source added: “She instructed Murahwa to check for US$10,000 she had left inside tennis shoes, which were in the wardrobe.
“Murahwa did not locate the money.
“Mrs Bhasera told Murahwa to check for a cash box that was behind a television and it contained US$2,000 and Murahwa discovered that it was missing. Murahwa made a police report leading to the arrest of the two suspects. Investigations showed that one of the suspects was given the keys by Bhasera’s daughter and the money was not recovered.”
