Exciting times for women football

THE Zimbabwe Women’s Premier Soccer League (ZWPSL) are entering a new era focused on the welfare of their players, league chairperson, Chido Chizondo has said.

Chizondo expressed her commitment to enhancing the lives and careers of female footballers following the handover of the monthly awards to the Player of the Month and top goal-scorer for August.

The ZWPSL board, which was elected in July, has partnered with Utano Herbal Solutions to provide monthly prizes for players throughout the remainder of the season.

This effort is backed by a long-term agreement aimed at sustaining the league’s growth and ensuring players receive recognition for their hard work and talent.

The monthly awards feature four key categories – Player of the Month, Goalkeeper of the Month, top goal-scorer, and Coach of the Month.

The inaugural recipients of these accolades for August were Mitchell Mazhambe of Shesham Queens, who was crowned the top goalscorer with four goals ,while Kwekwe Queens’ Anita Ncube was named Player of the Month.

The Goalkeeper of the Month, Christine Chinhamo, and coach of the month, Martin Bonongwe of Black Mambas, will be presented their awards this weekend.

“A month after we got into office, getting partners to come on board is very motivating.

“As a league, we are very grateful to Utano Herbal Solutions for the sponsorship.

“This is just the beginning of an era where our priority is on player welfare.

“Now they (players) can see that there’s progress, and they feel appreciated, which I think is very important for them,” said Chizondo
