The Eastern Highlands in Manicaland province have become a hub of classy hotels as they compete to lure tourists who come to enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna in the province.

One such hotel that has moved to lure tourists is the Golden Peacock in Mutare. Since its establishment in 2012, the hotel has become one of the best, offering high-end services in the breath-taking landscape. Located three kilometres from the city, the villa offers world-class comfort and facilities.

Its location gives an overview of some of the locations in Mutare as people enjoy the 83 luxurious en-suites ranging from standard, deluxe, villas and executive.

In the executive rooms one is pardoned to think he is in a five-star hotel as it has clean sheets and nice brown furniture that gives a modern look to the rooms. Last week one of the hotel marketing managers, Willard Madhombiro, said they were moving to get a four-star status.

“We have constructed a very big conference room that accommodates more than 400 guests.
‘‘That is one of the weaknesses we had as a hotel. I have seen that most groups go to Victoria Falls in search of bigger conference rooms. As Golden Peacock now we have added that as an advantage,” he said.

These conference rooms offer packages that suits banqueting, seminars, exhibitions, workshops, company functions, cocktails and weddings. The conference room has a stage and can be used by musicians. He, however, noted that they have few hotel rooms that might not complement bigger conference rooms.

“We have 83 hotel rooms that might not be enough especially when there is a big conference room like that, however we have since made a deal with some local hotels to give them our guests,” he said. They have already improved their executive rooms as a move to attain a four-star status.

“We have five executive rooms we have already upgraded as a move to get our four-star status. We want to be the best hotel in Manicaland,” he said. Madombiro said they are moving to establish state of the art facilities. The conference facilities can accommodate from 25 to 400 people.

“We want to have modern conference rooms and in the next five years we will be there. Already our investor has already indicated on that. We have since acquired new chairs,” he said. Apart from revamping the conference facilities, they have also added private dinings.

Madhombiro highlighted that their main restaurant accommodates about 120 guests with the other three private dinning rooms — the Golden Peacock (18 dinners), Huangshan Mount Hall (10 dinners) and the Great Hall (10 dinners).

“Our patrons might need also time to rest interact as well there is a world-class Glow Bar that has been stocked with a wide range of both alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages that is within the hotel premises and we are happy that it has also attracted even some people from outside,” he said.

Since some of the best scenic views are in different parts of Manicaland, Golden Peacock can organise group tours to some of the interesting tourism sites in the surrounding areas such as Vumba, Nyanga and Chimanimani.

“That is upon the request of the visitors to have these tours. That is one of our efforts to compliment other places here in Manicaland,” he said.
Tight security on the rooms has been one of their major key areas and they have since introduced electronic card access system, a development that is in line with the global trends in the industry. Madhombiro said Golden Peacock Villa Hotel will strive to play a meaningful role in efforts to turnaround the national economy.
