adminconfirmed yesterday that part of the road would be ready ahead of the premier tourism conference.
Work on the road has been delayed by a host of issues among them delays by service providers like Zesa Holdings to remove underground electricity cables while Harare City Council has been found wanting on the supply of concrete aggregates.
“Completion depends on service providers – Zesa and Harare City Council driving the progress. We will work in tandem with city and other service providers,” said Mr Blerk. “We will work as fast as they want us to work. We hope 8km of the 11.5km would be open to traffic by mid August.”
Mr Van Blerk said delays in supplying concrete aggregates by the city was slowing down progress.
He said once the 8km stretch is open the contractor would move to upgrade the existing road to give it the same quality and strength with the new carriageway.
Government has given its support towards the project and is regularly updated on the progress.
