A DARING trio, who terrorised motorists in Harare Central Business District masquerading as police officers, are now coming face-to-face with the powerful force of justice.
Clinton Mupasi, Takaona Makopa and Lloyd Mahowa Zvoma appeared before magistrate Dennis Mangosi in Harare yesterday and were remanded in custody pending bail considerations. The court heard that on Monday, police officers, who were on duty in the Harare CBD, got a tip-off that the three were terrorising people around the capital and extorting them.
Acting on the tip-off, the police tracked them down the trip and located Mupasi near Joina City Mall. The police introduced themselves and he identified himself as Constable Mainato, showing off a police identity card and a national identification card.
The police then intercepted his accomplices, Makopa and Zvoma, who introduced themselves as Constable Kauswa of ZRP Ruwa and Assistant Inspector Makovere.
The three were taken to CID offices for interviews and it was established that they were masquerading as police officers and they were not the real owners of the identity cards.
Searches were conducted and they were all found in possession of a pair of handcuffs.
Zvoma later led detectives to his home where further searches were carried out.
A Zimbabwe National Army identification card, in the name of Godfrey Muonde, and another police identity card, in the name of Constable Mbawa, were recovered in a brown wallet, which was in the wardrobe.
He failed to explain how he got those documents. Thomas Chanakira appeared for the State.
