CHRISTIAN music sensation, Family Voices, have reached a milestone in gospel music by being nominated among the accapella groups vying for the Bulawayo Novelties Awards (BNA) next month. The BNA ceremony is expected to take place for the first time in the city next month.
These awards are meant to develop a culture of appreciating local art and attract the new generation to support locals in the atmosphere that is relevant to them.
Family Voices member who also won in the 2007 A-Academy musical contest, Tinashe Chikaka, was excited that his group was nominated in The Best Accapella category.
“I’m glad to reveal that Family Voices have been nominated in the Bulawayo Novelties Awards category. We feel honoured as Family Voices to be nominated in this category and this shows that our effort and talent are being recognised,” said Chikaka.
Organisers of the BNA awards seek to create a platform to celebrate and honour all local artistes in their diversity.
“There are a lot of talented groups in Bulawayo. These groups include the likes of Jeys Marabini, Drums of Peace, and Djembe Monks among others and it’s high time people give credit to these people in order to boost talent and quality in the music industry.
“The only thing that is lacking in Bulawayo is support for the artistes,” said Chikaka.
Groups eligible for nominations should be based in Bulawayo.
Family Voices manager Emmanuel Chidaka thanked the organisers of the awards for coming up with such an initiative.
“To have such awards in Bulawayo is a blessing. I would like to thank the organisers of these awards who have realised talent in my group. They should keep on supporting local artistes in order for them to grow.
“Our nomination in this category will definitely help to market my group,” said Chidaka.
