The show will be held at the Bulawayo Club on 28 September from 7pm till late and will have local musicians and poets providing entertainment. The show is organised by a local empowerment organisation, Evolve Youth Empowerment.
Spokesperson of the organisation, Merry-birth Ushe, who is the reigning Miss Zim Environment second princess, said the fashion show was inspired by the fact that no Bulawayo fashion designers attended the Zim Fashion week.
She said the fashion show was a way to empower the youth through fashion and would have a summer theme to it.
“We want to empower the youth with the use of fashion that is why we organised this fashion show.
“We realised that no Bulawayo designer attended Zimbabwe Fashion Week and we want to cater for them,” said Ushe.
The model said the six designers would use 10 models that were chosen from the streets.
“The models were chosen from the streets of Bulawayo, they are between sizes six and eight. We want new faces in the modelling industry and the models are aged between 20 and 25 years. These are parts of efforts to empower the young girls,” said Ushe.
The six designers are White Cotton, Blink, J.J, Evolve, Delicious and Nubian and Bride.
Her counterpart Sibongile Ngorima said Bulawayo hip-hop artiste POY would launch his Mabomba music video during the fashion show.
She said the red carpet event would also see sculptures and jewellery being displayed as part of the glitz and glam.
“We have a young group called Angels Kingdom Music Group (AKMG) that will provide the entertainment.
There will be stands for jewellery and sculpture to display works at the red carpet event,” said Ngorima.
She said the event would be a black tie event and would cost $10.
“The proceeds from the show will be used for youth empowerment projects in the city. People are encouraged to wear suit and tie to make the red carpet event all about glitz and glam,” said Ngorima.
