ENTERTAINMENT Republic boss, Maxwell Mugaba, has revealed their plans to hold a big gig at the National Sports stadium on October 29.
It has been over a decade since a musical show of that magnitude was held at the giant stadium when huge crowds witnessed the Akon and Sean Paul concert.
Mugaba said the show, dubbed “Bira Guru”, will be a platform to strictly promote local talent.
He said all music genres in the country will be given the opportunity to showcase their talent, including big and small, upcoming artists.
“It is a celebration of everything local.
“Big artists will be in the line-up and so will be the upcoming artists.
“Ever since the days of Jenaguru, this would be one of the gigs that will promote our local artists at a huge platform,” he said.
Mugaba believes the show will be successful, considering the experience they have, in the entertainment sector.
He said they drew some lessons from the Akon and Sean show, held over a decade ago.
“We are ready to hold this gig,” he said.
“With about 15 years of experience in this industry, it shows that we are capable, although we know that it’s a challenge.
A few years ago, we filled Glamis Stadium, with about 20 000 people.
“We also learnt lessons from the Akon and Sean Paul gig. It’s very possible to successfully hold this gig,” he told H-Metro.
Mugaba said they will charge affordable gate fees and open many entry points to avoid unscrupulous activities.
“We will charge an affordable entrance fee of about US$5. This would avoid, or deter people, who will try to enter into the event for free, or lower prices.
“There would also be about 15 entry points, as you know the National Sports Stadium has about 30 entrance gates.
“We will also beef up the security with help of the police,” he said.
