Filmmakers share experiences at IIFF

The International Images Film Festival’s fourth edition which is showing intriguing and tear-jerking movies has brought refreshing experiences to filmmakers. The festival began last weekend and will close on Saturday. IIFF which is running under the theme “Women Alive: Women of Heart”, will feature over 60 narratives selected from 30 countries.

All the films screened at the different venues are being viewed free of charge and the festival venues are Ster Kinekor Borrowdale, Ster Kinekor East gate, Alliance Francaise, National gallery, Rutendo Hall, Mufakose and Zimbabwe Hall, Highfield.

In an interview with The Herald Entertainment, acting director of the festival Karen Mukwasi said visiting filmmakers have been exchanging notes with their local counterparts and the events have been exciting.

“Prior to the opening, a visiting filmmaker Yaba Badoe held a documentary film making workshop. She trained six Zimbabwean filmmakers,” said Mukwasi.

IIFF exists to raise the visibility of works promoting positive gender relations, and works by women filmmakers.

“Special events include the screening of ‘Selma’, a film that chronicles Martin Luther King’s non-violence campaign to get voting rights for the black people in the United States,” she said.

This year’s edition is surely to bring tears to others while it makes others crack their ribs with laughter.

“Another special event will be the three 3D stereoscopy station by Professor Ludger Pfanz.

“The festival will close on of August 22 at the National Gallery of Zimbabwe with an awards ceremony.”
