A FISHERMAN, who wanted to cross the Chawara River in Kariba before it flooded, drowned on Valentine’s Day.
Mashonaland West Provincial Police Spokesman, Inspector Ian Kohwera, said the incident happened in the evening on the day reserved for love.
Kashamo Fresher, (43), spent the better part of the day drinking beer at National Anglers Association of Zimbabwe in the company of two friends.
He received a phone call from another friend advising him that the Chawara River was about to be flooded.
“Kashamo Fresher left his friends at the outlet and proceeded to go home.
“He never reached home.
“His friends also thought that he had gone home when they left the beer outlet heading to their respective homes.”
Insp Kohwera said his body was seen along the Chawara River bank and was taken to Kariba Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem.
“People should wait until the water subsides and safely cross rivers.
“The use of canoes to cross flooded rivers must be avoided at all cost in a bid to avoid being swept away.”
