As the police blitz on drug paddlers intensifies, five people in Mutare were last week arrested after being found in possession of 15kg of dagga and 120 grammes of crystal methamphetamine, popularly known as mutoriro.

The Mutare CID Drugs and Narcotics Section arrested five people following tip-offs in Chikanga, Sakubva and Dangamvura.

The ongoing crackdown on drug peddlers is running under the operation code-named “No to Crystal meth”.

It is targeting young people.

Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka said the police are working tirelessly to bring to stop the abuse of drugs in the province.

He pleaded with members of public to avail information that may lead to the arrest of drug cartels in their respective areas.

“High-density suburbs are heavily infested by illegal drugs and we have been conducting regular raids. We are supporting Government’s stance in castigating drug abuse,” said Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka.

“As police, we have embarked on an operation to raid drug paddlers’ havens and confiscate the drugs and substances. We recently recovered 15kg of dagga, 120 grammes of crystal meth or mutoriro or dombo and the perpetrators were nabbed.

“The operation is still ongoing and we are appealing to members of the public with tip-offs to furnish us with information for us to bust these drugs cartels and bases that sell guka and dagga. People can contact the Drugs and Narcotics section at Mutare CID,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.

Although drug peddlers and addicts are abusing dangerous drugs such as dagga, BronCleer, illicit beers and ganja cakes, it has been established that crystal meth has been the most dominating.
