POLICE have busted five drug peddlers and recovered 6kgs of dagga in Chinhoyi.
Acting Provincial Police Spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Effort Chapoto, told H- Metro the five men were arrested on Thursday at about 1:30 pm.
He said they arrested five people — Newton Data (43), Shadreck Chakwizira, Chenai Homani (25), Tsitsi Mushonga (38) and Brighton Alufasi (40).
He said on Thursday, the ZRP Makonde District crack team made up of Assistant Inspector Mukwirimba, Detective Sergeant Muchekayawa, Sergeant Marimirofa, Constable Nyangenga, Constable Makandeni and Constable Purazini received a tip-off that Zata and his team were supplying dagga in the Hunyani area of Chinhoyi.
“Armed with this crucial information, the team reacted and intercepted a silver Honda Fit, registration number AFM 9683, which was being driven by Chakwizira.
“Upon interrogation and searches made in the vehicle, dagga weighing 2.063 kgs was recovered.
“However, on conducting further investigations, it was discovered that some deliveries had been already done to Mushonga and Alufasi.
“Eventually, the whole loot was recovered,” said Ass Insp Chapoto.
He said preliminary investigations indicate that the drugs were coming from Eswatini.
“Currently the suspects are helping police with further investigations and will be taken to court soon.
“Fighting drug abuse remains everyone’s responsibility and together we can win the war.
“We thank those who supplied positive information and remind everyone that community policing is the way to go as that bond between the community and the police always yields positive results.”
Ass Insp Chapoto said on January 27, they arrested Eneresi Phiri (29) of Chikonohono who was found in possession of 31 bottles of Sal Terpyn and 38 bottles of Broncleer.
