STAR-STUDDED outfit, Flavor Town Old Boys Darts Club are this year’s winners of the Chairman’s Trophy doubles competition after outplaying 13 competitors to land the accolade at Raylton Sports Club last Saturday.
It was the sterling effort of Flavor Town Old Boys duo of Ronie Mubango and Eddie Mawadza that earned the club the first position, while Buffaloes’ Melody Gezana and Willie Mupfava did well to hand Buffaloes second position.
The Chairman’s Trophy is an annual darts tournament played by teams affiliated to Mutare Darts Association (MDA).
Winners, Flavor Town Old Boys, Buffaloes, Mutare Teachers’ College, Mangenje, Chutsa Chutsa, hosts, Raylton Sports Club, Kurauone, TelOne, Public Works, Lamour, Zimbabwe Prisons and KPG make up the list of teams that took part in this year’s edition of the season opening tournament.
Public Works were the defending champions.
Flavor Town Old Boys club chairman, Gabriel Canery, praised his team for their dedication, while sending warning shots to competitors in the oncoming season.
“We are quite excited about the achievement. In fact, I believe we really deserved it given the spirit in the club. This should serve as a warning shot to competitors. We really want to scoop everything on offer this season and I have no doubt that we have a team that can achieve that,” said Canery.
Their patron, Amon “Mbiggs” Mambinge pledged to give more support to the team in their quest for glory in the game of darts.
“As patron, I am happy that we are supporting a team that is playing well. We will continue to support them in their endeavour,” he said.
The Mutare Darts League, which ended with 14 teams last season, is set to kick off on February 6.
