Foreign investors net sellers in ZSE Q3, as REIT and ETF trading value soars

Zimbabwe Stock Exchange (ZSE) recorded total value of trades on the Real Estate Investment Trust (REIT) board of ZiG 69,43 million, while the number of REIT units exchanged reached 77,67 million units for the third quarter ending September 30, 2024.

According to the ZSE markets newsletter, the market caplitalisation for the REITs sector was ZiG 1,58 billion for the period under review.

As for exchange traded funds (ETFs), ZSE notes that there are five ETFs listed on its board which assisted the index gained in the third quarter.

“The ZSE ETF index gained 56,2 percent in the third quarter closing at 184.08 points,” according to ZSE.

During the period under review, the ETF board recorded a total trading value of ZiG 978,230, and 19,4 million ETF units were traded.

By September 30, 2024, the market capitalisation for the EFTs stood at ZiG 133,8 million.

In the third quarter of 2024, foreign investor participation in the market was notable, alongside a significant net sell position.

“Foreign investor participation was 8,3 percent with net sells sitting at ZiG 89,4 million,” said ZSE.

ZSE highlighted that its market capitalisation reached ZiG 79,5 billion at the end of the period under review, bolstered by significant contributions from five leading equities.

Delta Corporation emerged as the top contributor, representing 32 percent of the market capitalisation. It was followed by FBC at 14,3 percent, CBZ at 9,8 percent, Econet Wireless at 9,5 percent and First Mutual Holdings at 3,7 percent.
