FOREX TRADERS OFF THE STREETS

A NUMBER of money changers have been forced out of the Harare streets following the new monetary policy announced by the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor.

The money changers were a common sight at every entrance and exits of major supermarkets, City Council offices and money transfer agencies.

One of the money changers, only identified as Terrence, told H-Metro he feared for his business.

“Zvakatoendwa wangu, zvekuchinja mari hazvichatoita kwandiri ndakanyura mari yangu asi handipererwe zvangu.

“I will be doing other business, I will not starve in my motherland.

“We are waiting for the direction which will be taken by the monetary authorities and see if they will be any need to continue changing money.

“Those left on the streets are the daring and dangerous ones and were the ones who used to rob our fellows in broad daylight in foreign exchange deals.

“Haungangogarira kuchinja maRands nemaPula chete asi vakatomirira kuvhiringa nekunyudza vasati vaziva kuti zvekuchinja mari zvakatovharana,” he said.

In his 2024 Monetary Policy Statement, Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe Governor, John Mushayavanhu, said the policy seeks to achieve a solid and stable currency with the introduction of ZiG to circulate alongside other currencies.
