A Gilder Foods (Pvt) Ltd employee was last week sentenced to 140 hours of community service after she was found guilty of defrauding her employer of US$15 500. Dorris Chinembiri (42) appeared before Harare magistrate Mr Tendai Mahwe facing fraud charges.
In passing his verdict, Mr Mahwe noted that Chinembiri was a first offender and a mother.
The prosecutor Ms Franscica Mukumbiri alleged that in March 2014, Chinembiri was given US$2 208 to pay ZESA bills, but converted the cash to her own use.
In the same month Chinembiri converted US$229 to her own use. The cash was intended to pay a TelOne bill. It is also alleged that Chinembiri failed to pay ZESA bills for April ,June and October after she was given US$3 339, US$2 328, US$2 156 respectively.
Ms Mukumbiri also alleged that Chinembiri misused money that was intended for TelOne bills for the months of June, August and September that included US$234, US$240 and US$218 respectively.
