From standing still to walking in peace

“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” — Matthew 11:28-30

Last week, we stood with the children of Israel at the banks of the Red Sea.

We heard the voice of God saying, “The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.”

We learnt that divine rest is not about giving up, becoming passive or abandoning our dreams.

Instead, divine rest is choosing to trust God when we no longer have the strength to trust ourselves.

We learnt that God meets us exactly where human ability ends and divine power begins.

This week, I want us to continue from that very point. The question is: What happens after you stand still?

What happens after God parts the sea?

What does divine rest look like after the miracle? Many believers know how to pray for a breakthrough, but few know how to live in rest after that breakthrough.

Many know how to cry out to God, but struggle to walk in the peace He provides.

The Israelites stood still and witnessed God perform one of the greatest miracles in history.

The sea opened, the waters stood as walls on both sides and their enemies were destroyed. God fought for them exactly as He promised.

Yet, their journey was not over.

There is an important lesson here: Divine rest is not a destination; it is a lifestyle.

God did not want Israel to rest only at the Red Sea; He wanted them to trust Him throughout the wilderness.

The same God who opened the sea was also able to provide water, manna, protection, guidance and victory.

Some of us have seen God answer prayers before.

He has healed us, opened doors and made a way.Yet, when a new challenge appears, we panic as though God has never worked in our lives. But if God was faithful in June, He will be faithful in July.

If God brought you through one sea, He can bring you through another.

If He fought yesterday’s battle, He can fight today’s battle and tomorrow’s as well.

The enemy of divine rest is not hard work; the enemy of divine rest is worry.

Worry is faith in the wrong direction. It is believing more in what could go wrong than in what God can make right.

It consumes our thoughts, steals our sleep, weakens our prayers and clouds our judgment.

That is why Jesus says, “Come to Me, all you who labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.”

Some people think rest comes when circumstances improve, but God says rest comes when your faith improves.

You can have money and still have no rest.  You can have a title and still have no rest. You can have achievements and still have no rest. True rest comes from knowing who is in control.

This month, God is inviting us to exchange our burdens for His peace.

He is asking, “Why are you carrying what I already carried on the cross?”

Every burden we refuse to surrender eventually becomes a weight that slows us down.

Peter gives us the secret when he says: “Cast all your anxiety on Him because He cares for you.”

Notice he says all.

Not some. Not a portion. Not just the burdens you think God can handle. All of them — the burden of your future, your children, your health, your ministry and your finances.

Cast them upon the Lord.

The world says strength comes from striving harder; God says strength comes from waiting on Him.

Isaiah declares, “Those who wait on the Lord shall renew their strength.”

The eagle does not become powerful by fighting the wind; it becomes powerful by positioning itself correctly.

Likewise, many believers are exhausted because they are trying to do in their own strength what only God can do through His grace.

The greatest evidence that you trust God is how peacefully you rest while waiting for His answer.

God has not brought us this far to abandon us.

The God who fought for Israel still fights for His children today.

As we rest, we will discover that God is already working behind the scenes — arranging what you cannot arrange, opening what you cannot open, healing what you cannot heal and fighting battles you cannot fight.

Closing declaration

Father, in this month of divine rest, we surrender every burden, every fear, every unanswered question and every struggle into Your hands.

We choose to trust You completely.

We declare that You are fighting for us, making a way for us and strengthening us daily.

We shall not be moved by what we see, but by what You have spoken.

We receive Your peace, Your strength and Your rest.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.
