A MOTHER and her son were dramatically arrested at a police roadblock in Beitbridge while ferrying a massive 25kg stash of mbanje in a truck with foreign plates.
The weed-running family duo, Sibusisiwe Ncube (43) and her 27-year-old son Stephen Ncube, were arrested on Saturday at the 90km peg along the Beitbridge-Gwanda highway.
Police officers manning the roadblock got more than they bargained for when they stopped the suspicious truck and uncovered 12 tightly packed cobs of dagga hidden inside.
“On 05/07/2025, members of the police deployed at a roadblock at the 90 kilometre peg along Beitbridge-Gwanda Road, Makhado, Beitbridge arrested Sibusisiwe Ncube (43) and her son, Stephen Ncube (27) for unlawful possession of 12 cobs of dagga weighing approximately 25 kilogrammes. The two suspects were aboard a truck with foreign number plates,” said police in a statement posted to their social media platforms.
The arrest has sent tongues wagging in the usually quiet Makhado area, with many shocked at how a mother and son teamed up in the illegal mbanje trade.
Investigations are ongoing, with police trying to determine the origin and intended destination of the illicit cargo.
