A 33-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man recently discovered that dagga in your pocket comes with a court date!
Tawanda Machekera appeared before Bulawayo Magistrate Casmila Madzikatire after he was found in possession of dagga when he was cornered by detectives in the city.
The magistrate slapped him with a US$120 fine or three months in prison if he fails to pay.
Prosecuting Mehluli Ndlovu told the court that on 29 December 2025, at around 4PM, police detectives on duty received information to the effect that the accused person was in possession of dagga at the corner of Herbert Chitepo Street and 3rd Avenue.
Armed with the tip-off, the detectives wasted no time and approached Machekera at the said place.
They introduced themselves, informed him of their mission and then went straight for the pockets.
A search was conducted on the accused person, leading to the recovery of three sachets of dagga neatly tucked away in his pocket.
The recovered dagga was taken to Bulawayo Main Post Office for weighing in the presence of both the accused and the police.
The stash weighed a few grams and carried an approximate street value of ZIG30.
Machekera could only watch as his green dreams went up in smoke and his pockets became evidence bags.
For him, it was a short walk from the street corner to a court corridor.
