THE beauty of Mutare, its clean and peaceful environment, peace-loving people and magical ambience charmed energetic musicians Gemma Griffiths and Nutty O as they put up scintillating performances at Golden Peacock Hotel last week on Friday.
This sold out gig, Gemma’s maiden tour in Mutare, was part of her national tour.
It was through this show that Harare-based Diamond Boyz rekindled their romance with local fans for the first time ever since the relaxation of the Covid-19 lockdown.
The boys warmed up the stage in style and kept fans on their toes with plug tracks such as ‘Energy’, ‘Pesonari’, ‘Dhukeke’, ‘Rekete’ and ‘Kudakwashe’. The formidable twins exuded extra energy and their vocals blended well with the instrumentals.
They left the stage for versatile wheel spinner, King Her, who was part of Gemma’s entourage. She thrilled fans on the turntables before Gemma jumped on the stage just before 1am.

The crowd went haywire and shoved to catch a closer glimpse of the golden girl.
Clad in an immaculate sequin crop top, palazzo and a black biker boot, she churned out hit after hit.
What made the show epic was her performance with a live band.
The instrumentalists were on point and the sound was perfect.
She belted out songs such as ‘Titungamirirei Baba’, ‘Musarova Bigman’ and ‘Maita Basa Baba’, among others.
Multi award-winning singer, Nutty O, was popular among the ladies who screamed and shoved each other to the stage, particularly when he strummed songs like ‘Peter Pan’ and ‘Hatipere Power’, ‘Safe’ and ‘Kokai’.
Others jostled for Kodak moments with the superstar.
The Ability Extension (ABX) leader allowed fans to sing along to some of his popular songs such as ‘Vava Voom’, ‘Boom Shelele’, ‘Peter Pan’, ‘Kokai’, ‘Safe’, ‘Ndiwe’, ‘Bless my hustle’, ‘My Girl’ and ‘Zuva’, which he composed with the late Zim dancehall chanter, Soul Jah Love.
The toast of the night was when Nutty O joined Gemma on stage for their song ‘263’, which also features Asaph.
His performance sealed his status as one of the current sought after artistes in Zimbabwe.
Gemma, speaking through a member of her management team, Leeonie Nyadombo, said they were charmed by the response they received in Mutare.
“We have had a successful tour across the country, but Mutare’s show was one of our best. The atmosphere was electric and magical. Hearing our fans singing along to most of our songs was motivating and gave us the power to outdo ourselves on the stage.
“Mutare is beautiful and we promise to come back in the near future as we had a very successful outing in the eastern border city. People came in their numbers to support us,” said Nyadombo.
