Gems clinch Celtic Cup opener

ZIMBABWE senior netball team opened their Celtic Cup campaign in style after beating Northern Ireland 54-46 in an action-packed match at Emirates arena, Glasgow in Scotland on Thursday night.

Gems Goal Keeper Elizabeth Mushore was crowned the Player-of-the-Match.

The invitational tournament brought together teams from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and the Gems to showcase elite-level competitive netball.

Played in a round-robin format, the third and fourth place play-offs and finals of the tourney will be held on November 10.

The Celtic Cup has been created by Netball Northern Ireland, Netball Scotland and Wales Netball to provide the best competitive tournament for athletes and spectators outside of the World Cup and Commonwealth Games.

The Gems are expected to be in action again Friday night when they face the Scottish Thistles.

The match begins at 8pm.
