CAROLINE Murinda, the dazzling beauty who made history as one of the first black women to wear the Miss Zimbabwe crown, has died at 65.

Murinda, who clinched the coveted title in 1982 and went on to charm the world at the Miss World pageant in London, breathed her last on Tuesday afternoon in a South African hospital.

“She died today after being hospitalised in a South African hospital,” confirmed family spokesperson Michelle Mukunda. “She was staying there with her family, and we are still awaiting further details regarding her burial.”

The family is said to be in discussions, with elders deliberating on where and when the iconic beauty queen will be laid to rest.
Murinda leaves behind two children.

Hailing from Harare, the poised and graceful model made waves on the international stage, reaching the Miss World semi-finals and bagging the title of Africa’s Queen of Beauty. Her reign broke barriers, inspiring a generation of local models and putting Zimbabwean beauty on the global map.

Final funeral arrangements are expected to be announced soon.
