WITH just two goals in seven games and three straight 1-0 defeats, Dynamos are banking on the upcoming mid-season transfer window to rescue their stuttering campaign.
The Harare giants, who have failed to score in five of their seven outings, are growing increasingly convinced that their goal-scoring woes may only be resolved by fresh legs when the window opens on June 1.
Along with Chicken Inn, the Glamour Boys are among the league’s most wasteful teams this season, and they’ve already started searching for firepower to bolster their blunt frontline.
Former Highlanders and MWOS forward Obert Tafira is one of the players currently training with the side, hoping to secure a deal in time for the second half of the campaign.
DeMbare have a paltry two goals to show in over 630 minutes of football, a rate that translates to one goal in more than five hours of play.
The Glamour Boys have suffered back-to-back 1-0 defeats in their last three matches against Manica Diamonds, Chicken Inn and newcomers MWOS. It’s become increasingly predictable: when they concede, they’re likely to lose.
Coach Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe is now in a bind and has begun weighing up his options ahead of the mid-season window, which opens in four weeks.
“It’s worrying, because if you see the margins of 1-0, it shows you that we’ve got a crisis in front of goal. We get chances, we don’t take them.
“Naturally, you are in the middle where you cannot register new players and you cannot make amends to that situation.
“So, you’ve got now to raise the levels of your training to make sure that at least you get one or two goals to take you across the line. But it’s worrying that we have not been getting goals,” said Chigowe.
Defensive midfielder Shadreck Nyahwa is the only DeMbare player who has scored this season, while none of their forwards have found the back of the net.
Chigowe is hopeful that big striker Tafira, who has been with the squad at training, could be the answer.
However, the former Bosso and MWOS man can only be registered after the window opens on June 1.
Dynamos’ problems can be traced back to a chaotic pre-season that saw them fail to replace outgoing forwards Emmanuel Paga and Sadney Urikhob.
They also missed out on a number of key targets, including Nicholas Guyo, Thomas Chideu, and an unnamed Nigerian striker whose move collapsed at the last minute.
“We failed to give a contract to that boy,” explained Chigowe.
“And, we’ve got another boy who we’ve given a contract to, a big striker here, Adebayo (Obert Tafira), whom we think could be doing the job for us. But again, we gave him a contract but failed to register him. And it militates against all our planning.”
Tafira previously turned out for Highlanders, University of Pretoria, Harare City and most recently MWOS.
DeMbare are set to host struggling newcomers Kwekwe United at Rufaro this Sunday, and may fancy their chances against the financially embattled Midlanders.
Kwekwe United failed to fulfil their home fixture last week against Herentals and now face disciplinary action from the PSL, with a hearing set for May 5.
But Chigowe insists his side won’t underestimate the visitors, especially with DeMbare still battling their own demons having won only once this season.
“Like I always say, being Dynamos, you attract a lot of opposition, it motivates opponents’ teams. Their players believe that they can market themselves in the game against Dynamos, so we don’t get complacent against any opponent, whether it be Bikita Minerals, Kwekwe United or Triangle United.
“We go full throttle and believe that we’ve got a real match on our hands, a match that we must win, which is very important for us to win this game,” said Chigowe.
