Madhodha, who is based at Rowland Park Golf Club in Zvishavane, is hopeful that he will make his presence felt in the professional ranks.
Rowland Park nurtured last year’s Zambezi Tour Order of Merit winner Ignatius Mketekete.
“I think the games are just the same and coming from the amateur ranks gives me an opportunity to prove my mettle,” said Madhodha.
“I believe there is not much of a difference and the challenge is good for me as I will work hard.
“It has been long since I wanted to take golf as a profession and the time has now come. The game is the same and I hope I will climb up the ladder and make an impact.
“Amateur golf was competitive and I managed to play well and win some tournaments, which helps me to believe in myself.
“There is no pressure on my side and I just need to stay focused since nothing much has changed. The only difference is that I will be playing with competitive golfers, some of whom inspired me to reach this level.”
Hungwe, who captained the national team at the Zone VI this year, said he was confident he will make his mark.
“Hillside is a little tricky course but I have played there before and I have practised well for the tournament,” said Hungwe.
“I think I will be ready for the challenge. I have played with most of the golfers and I have learnt a thing or two from them. I don’t need to put myself under immense pressure as there are still many games to come.”
The Marange Resources Pro-Am tees off tomorrow morning with several amateur and professional golfers taking part in the event.
Meanwhile, Tongoona Charamba was elected the Zimbabwe Professional Golfers’ Association president at an annual meeting held at Chapman on Monday. The touring professional was elevated to the post after Arkil Yousuf’s nomination was withdrawn.
Charamba, who was a player representative in the Yousuf-led executive, won the approval of his fellow professionals. Phillip Tshuma is the new vice-president while Royal Harare’s William Lake is the treasurer.
Yousuf will now sit on the Zambezi Tour board as a player representative.
Davison Elijah remains the secretary while Simon Murungweni is the players’ representative.
The committee members are Julius Kamalizeni and Richard Chitakatira.
“Our aim is to bring back a good reputation for the professional golfers’ association,” said Chitakatira.
