Director of the Single Parents and Widows Support Network Mrs Bridget Masaraure made the call at Neshangwe High School in Chikomba during a belated International Women’s Day commemoration last Friday.
Mrs Masaraure also pointed the need to implement the theme, Equal access of education, training, science and technology: Pathway to decent work for women.
“We call upon Government to create equal opportunities for women.
“As SPWSNET, we’ll continue working with the women so that they achieve decent lives,” she said.
Mrs Masaraure said she was happy with steps taken by Government so far in trying to create gender equity.
“It cannot be disputed that women are the backbone of the society, are organised, dynamic, have energy and are productive hence they can’t continue to be marginalised,” said Mrs Masaraure.
Chikomba East Member of the House of Assembly Cde Edgar Nyasha Mbwembwe expressed his gratitude to SPWSNET and Kunzwana Women’s Association for helping uplift the standards of women in the constituency.
“We appreciate the work being done by these organisations and call upon other stakeholders to emulate such noble endeavors,” he said.
Cde Mbwembwe lamented that Sadza Dam was lying idle and he was spearheading starting of irrigation projects by at least 100 women in the near future.
