IN a suspected act of satanism, an early childhood development pupil at Charles Wraith Primary School in Shurugwi recently caused a stir at the Government-run school when he sucked other pupils’ blood and licked their wounds.
Parents of pupils attending Charles Wraith were not amused following the bizarre incident and were demanding the withdrawal of the pupil from school while threatening to transfer their children if the issue was not addressed immediately.
A parent who refused to be named said the pupil was in the habit of licking other pupils’ wounds and cuts and sucking blood from them, raising fears that the kid could be a “vampire”.
The parent said some of the parents wanted to withdraw their children following the incident.
“We heard from our children that there was an ECD pupil who was in the habit of sucking other pupils’ blood and licking their wounds usually during lunch and tea breaks. This did not go down well with parents who went to the school to find out what was happening. Most parents feared that it could be an act of satanism,” said the parent.
Another parent who also preferred anonymity said the matter had been reported to child support group organisations to try and find out what could be the problem with the child.
“It might not be satanism but the child could have been exposed to horror movies. These could be the effects of television and adult movies that most of our underage children are watching. The child is getting help,” said the parent.
Charles Wraith head, a Mrs Dzoro, confirmed that there was such an incident at the school but refused to give finer details, citing professional reasons.
“We have reported that matter to our district education offices here in Shurugwi. You can get hold of them because we are not allowed to talk to the media unless we have been authorised. It would be prudent if you get an official comment from them,” she said.
Efforts to get a comment from Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education district offices were futile as the district education officer was not around.
Midlands education director Mrs Agnes Gudo could neither confirm nor deny the incident.
“I am not aware of such an incident, however, I will ask my deputies to look into the matter and give an update. At the moment I am not in the office,” she said.
